Students and staff at Da Vinci Academy got into the festive spirit on Friday to raise essential funds for a charity very close to their hearts.
Following a long-term and ongoing battle against myeloid leukaemia, Da Vinci student Lewis Dyche (Y11) inspired the school to come together and stage a huge range of activities to generate donations for the Teenage Cancer Trust and Save The Children. The pupils paid to wear a Christmas Jumper, held a cake sale, tuck shop, tombola, chocolate bouquet raffles, competitions to ‘name the bear’, a fun run, sponge the teacher and a range of sporting activities against staff. Some staff members also be performed Christmas carols during lunch time, playing various musical instruments and showcasing their talents!
Students and staff had lots of opportunities to give to the worthy causes throughout the day and win prizes. In addition, and as a huge act of kindness, Olivia Johnson (Y8) donated the money she would have had spent on her this Christmas, to a local children’s charity.
In total Da Vinci raised an outstanding £1,528 for the Teenage Cancer Trust and £400 for Save the Children.
Lewis said; “The event was amazing and there are just no words.” Olivia Johnson’s mum, Jane, commented; “We are extremely proud of our daughter for what she has done, it really means a lot to her and to us as a family. Olivia always puts others first before herself and we were all happy to contribute towards a fantastic charity.”
