A recent Ofsted inspection has praised Edna G. Olds Academy and concluded that the academy is ‘outstanding’. The academy was praised for providing a passionate and determined team who have transformed the quality of teaching and learning to provide an outstanding quality of education for pupils.

Edna G. Olds Academywas commended on establishing a highly inclusive academy, where the “pupils are tolerant, respectful and caring. They are exceptionally well prepared for life in modern Britain.”

The March 2019 Ofsted visit highlighted the overall outstanding learning environment where “pupils are proud to be part of the multicultural school. They have outstanding attitudes to learning and high aspirations.” The report highlighted the outstanding outcomes for the pupils; “all groups of pupils make substantial progress and attain exceptionally high standards in reading, writing and mathematics by the end of key stage 2.” The report showed the academy to have strong leadership support, high staff morale and polite, courteous and well-mannered pupils.

The report also praised the quality of leadership and support across the academy, which helps children across the academy to thrive academically, personally and socially. “They have established a ‘no excuses’ culture and a shared desire for every child to be valued as an individual. This vision permeates throughout the school’s work.”

Headteacher Melany Pemberton commented, “Edna G. Olds’ pupils, families, staff and governors are truly delighted to have been awarded an outstanding grade, during our recent inspection.  This achievement is a culmination of years of hard work, and is a testament to the sheer dedication, passion and wonderful team work philosophy employed by the whole school community.

We pride ourselves on the focus of lifelong learning, providing opportunities, enriching the curriculum and developing core skills to enable our pupils to explore, grow and succeed in life. Our children and families are amazing, and personally I feel so lucky to work within a team of devoted and caring practitioners who are unwaveringly committed to providing the very best for each individual pupil.”

The academy’s sponsor L.E.A.D. Academy Trust was praised for providing strong support and for working as a cohesive team with leaders of the academy. “Members of the academy advisory board visit the school frequently to monitor the school’s plans for improvement and to see, first hand, the impact of leaders’ actions. They have regular ‘engagement’ meetings with key leaders and hold discussions with pupils. This information is well recorded in the minutes of meetings of the advisory board and is used to inform the board of trustees’ knowledge of the school further.”
